I was a waiter at a reception for the Spanish Royal Family, taking and bringing glasses of wine and such. The daughter of the king, a beautiful lady, took interest in me, and I thought she liked me. I begun speaking about myself and at first she was interested, but the more I spoke, the less attention I was given, until finally she smiled politely and turned sideways. I thought I had misinterpreted her good manners as sign of romantic interest, and was greatly embarrassed. I wished to have listened instead of speaking about my dull life.
